Puerto Rico’s financial crisis has already taken an enormous human and financial toll on the island, and has yet to be resolved. The creation of a Junta appointed by Congress to administer the island’s fiscal affairs has raised an intense debate about Puerto Rico’s sovereignty and status and about the possible political and economic effects on the island and its people.
The Council on Latin American & Iberian Studies at the MacMillan Center at Yale has invited a set of leading academics, journalists, and activists to discuss Puerto Rico’s economic crisis and distinct routes toward a solution.
