The Hermanos of the Kappa Chapter of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated cordially invite you to our annual Noche Dorada gala entitled Nuestra Querida Tierra.

Noche Dorada, or “Golden Night,” is La Unidad Latina’s annual gala that showcases and celebrates an aspect of our culture and achievements. This year, LUL looks to the horizon with Nuestra Querida Tierra, where we will we discuss the effects of environmental racism on the Latinx and other marginalized communities and highlight the environmental justice work that is being performed by Latinx folks to combat this issue. We hope to spread awareness about a topic that is essential to the survival and livelihood of our community and many others.

Our keynote this year is Elizabeth Yeampierre. She is an internationally recognized Puerto Rican attorney and climate justice leader, co-chair of the Climate Justice Alliance, and Executive Director of UPROSE - Brooklyn’s oldest Latinx community-based organization, originally founded as the United Puerto Rican Organization of Sunset Park. UPROSE advocates for sustainable development, environmental justice, and community-led adaptation and community resiliency. In addition, we have Melvyn Colon, former Yale student and urban planner in Hartford, CT, who led a nation-wide initiative to stop dumping in low-income communities across the United States.

During our Noche we will be presenting our 4th annual Rosalinda V. Garcia Rosa Dorada Award to a Yale College Latina for embodying the mission of LUL through her contributions to the Latin@ community, both at Yale and in the community at large.

In keeping with the theme of our Noche and honoring a Chapter Hermano of our’s who has passed, we will be presenting the 3rd Annual Hermano Ernesto Sámano Espíritu Dorado Award. Hermano Ernesto, M.D. (SY 97) had a passionate and a spirited dedication to education. In his memory, we aim to present this award to a Yale faculty member or administrator who has shown this same commitment and drive and have provided students with a meaningful and impactful educational experience.

Please join us as we celebrate and honor the work and success of our communities. It surely will be a beautiful night of poetry, dancing, delicious food, and food for thought that we will remember. We look forward to having you be part of this special night.
