Maria Inclán is an associate professor of political science at CIDE in Mexico City. Inclán specializes in Mexican indigenous and urban protest movements, with special attention to the Zapatista movement in the 1990s. Her work has been seen in publications including the American Journal of Sociology, Mobilization, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, and the Journal of Peace Research. Currently, she is working on a book-length manuscript regarding the mobilization of insurgent movements during democratic transitions. For more than six years, Inclán has led CIDE students in the study of comparative politics, Mexican politics, and research design. Prior to her tenure there, she served as an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and Geography at the University of Texas, San Antonio. Inclán received her Ph.D. in political science from Penn State University, an M.P.A. in Education Policy from Cornell University, and a B.A. in Psychology from the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City. She has been the recipient of numerous fellowships, and since 2011, she has been a member of the international research project Caught in the Act of Protest: Contextualizing Contestation (www.protestsurvey.eu).
