Ángela Sophia is a junior in Berkeley College studying Political Science with plans of becoming a foreign correspondent. Her interests lie in understanding the development of post-colonial identities in Latin America and the role media plays in this. Throughout her upbringing in Puerto Rico, she has seen the interactions between media and politics in neo-colonial power dynamics like her island’s and hopes to further investigate these points of intersection. Ángela Sophia plans to approach her own work as a journalist with an understanding of these dynamics while pursuing stories that highlight actual Latin American voices. She spent part of her summer interning in Santiago, Chile with a newspaper and is looking for opportunities this summer to continue reporting in LatAm.
