Master of Forestry (MF)

Brittany Wienke is a student at the School of the Environment. She aims to better understand the possible link between community associations and land restoration  through close study of a silvopastoral community association, Asociación de Productores Pecuarios y Agro-silvopastoriles de Pedasí (APASPE), in the dry tropical forests of the Azuero Peninsula in Panama.. Once mostly covered with forests, the Azuero Peninsula has lost 83% of forest cover due to agricultural use. APASPE’s use of intensive silvopastural systems has helped renew the forest landscape. What lessons can we tease out from their early success to increase forest cover across Latin America?
