Jonathan (they/them) is a first-year student in Grace Hopper College studying Ethnicity, Race, and Migration. Jonathan grew up in Kansas and comes from a family of farmers from the state of Hidalgo, México. Jonathan is interested in studying political movements centered around establishing autonomy and well-being for vulnerable communities in Latin America. Therefore, their interests lie in the intersection of environmental, racial, and health justice. Additionally, Jonathan is interested in art and literature’s role within these political movements as a tool to strengthen and mobilize communities, and dictate their hopes and dreams for better futures. They are also an organizer for Students Unite Now, and a member of MEChA and Oyé Spoken Word. Jonathan can be found reading poetry, talking with friends, or walking around New Haven while admiring its beauty.
