Winnie Peng is a graduating senior at Yale-NUS College majoring in Economics. Having lived in Taipei, Tianjin, Shanghai and now Singapore, Winnie is deeply interested in the rise of Asia and its impact on other regions, specifically Latin America. Combining her economics training with her interest in Latin American & Iberian Studies, she hopes to understand the impact of Chinese wealth exportation on Latin American economies through China’s Belt and Road Initiatives. Previously, she has conducted interviews with the Instituto Cervantes in Madrid to study the spread of Tapas Culture and spent three months studying Spanish and traveling across the Iberian Peninsula under the Santander Spanish Language Scholarship. Currently in Singapore, she has also had the opportunity to speak with ambassadors from Mexico and Argentina to understand business trends and ventures between Asia and their respective countries. In the future, Winnie hopes to connect her two spheres of interests to bridge Chinese and Hispanic culture as well as foster symbiotic investment relationships between China and Latin America.
