Student Grants and Prizes

CLAIS supports summer research through fellowships for selected undergraduate and graduate students, including the Albert Bildner Prize, and the Latin American and Iberian Studies Travel Prize, the Tinker Field Research Grants, and the Steven Clark Senior Essay Travel Grant . Latin American and Iberian Studies Summer Travel Grants
Open to Junior undergraduates and graduate students to conduct research in Latin America, the Caribbean, Portugal or Spain.  Not applicable for language training, study abroad, internships or service projects. Awards are typically $500-$750, and are intended to help defray travel costs only. Click here for more information.

Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies (CLAIS) - Fall Semester, Winter and Spring Break Travel/Conference Award. 

The Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies (CLAIS) - Fall Semester, Winter and Spring Break Travel/Conference Awards are available to Yale Graduate and Professional School students and undergraduate students to help defray travel costs for research trips or trips to present at conferences in or about Latin America, Spain, and Portugal during the academic year. Students in the CLAIS Graduate and Professional School Affiliates Network and the CLAIS Undergraduate Fellows Network will be given priority and funded for this award.

The Albert Bildner Travel Prize
Open to Junior undergraduate students only, the Bildner Prize supports travel to Latin America for summer research related to the senior essay.  The Council grants one Bildner prize per year in the range of $500-$900. Bildner candidates must submit a project proposal in both English and Spanish or Portuguese. Click here for more information.

The Steven L. Clark Senior Essay Travel Grant

Established to honor the legacy of Steven L. Clark, this fund supports international student research projects geared toward senior honors essays by Yale College Students.  All undergraduate students are welcome to apply, however, preference will be given to projects related senior essay research and to projects in Latin America.  The final selections will be made by a committee of representatives from the Council on Latin American & Iberian Studies at the MacMillan Center.
