"Fandango a the Wall" (film screening, Q&A, live music)

Film screening of “Fandango at the Wall,” a documentary on the annual Fandango Fronterizo Festival, which unites people on both sides of the Tijuana-San Diego border. The festival features “jarocho,” a 300-year-old folk music tradition mixture of indigenous, Spanish, and African traditions originated.

It will be followed by a performance of jarocho, featuring Fernando Guadarrama, Gregorio Quiroz, and Perick. Introduced by CLAIS Postdoctoral Associate Maria Aguilar.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Yale African American Affinity Group and Yale Latino Networking Group will host Nadia Calmet. Nadia is a professional Peruvian dancer, actress, folk choreographer, and specialist in Afro-Peruvian culture. She has more than 25 years of experience participating in cultural exchanges with organizations in more than thirty countries as a cultural representative of Peru. During this diversity conversation, you’ll be able to see, recognize, and celebrate the Afro-Peruvian historical, artistic, and cultural heritage.
