August Rios (he/him) is a sophomore in Timothy Dwight College majoring in Sociology, with a concentration in Urban Sociology, and a certificate in Data Science. This past summer, August studied in Bilbao, Spain at La Universidad de Deusto. While in Spain, he pursued research exploring the validity of the Bilbao Effect, meaning the transformative impact of an iconic piece of architecture (in this case, the Guggenheim Museum) in revitalizing the socio-economic fabric of a city.

Beyond this project, August has a passion for addressing the U.S-Puerto Rican affordable housing deficit. He aspires to engage in comparative global housing policy research, drawing on insights garnered from international successes and failures to inform future policy decisions. In past research, he explored correlations between the existence of hazardous waste sites and their proximity to low-income housing in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Outside of Yale, August works at Statewide Legal Services, the New Haven Fair Rent Commission, and the Connecticut Fair Housing Center.
