Luis Zuniga Velasquez

I am a Chemical Engineering major from El Salvador, with a
passion for sustainable technologies and education reform in
Latin America. Growing up in a developing country, I experienced
firsthand the importance of accessible and innovative solutions
to address local challenges. This motivated me to pursue my
studies at Yale University, where I have dedicated my time to
researching and developing sustainable technologies tailored to
the unique needs of Latin American countries. As a strong
believer in quality education, I believe in the power of
interdisciplinary collaboration between science and humanities to
foster well-rounded, impactful change. My interest in Latin
American & Iberian Studies stems from a desire to deepen my
understanding of the region’s historical, political, and cultural
contexts, which are essential in creating meaningful,
long-lasting improvements.

As an aspiring Latin American & Iberian Studies Undergraduate
Fellow, I aim to bridge the gap between STEM and the humanities,
showcasing the synergy between the two in addressing pressing
issues in Latin America. My background in Chemical Engineering
equips me with the technical skills necessary to develop
innovative solutions, while my passion for Latin American &
Iberian Studies allows me to consider the broader implications of
these advancements on society. By joining the fellowship, I hope
to inspire other STEM students to explore the importance of
cultural and historical perspectives in their work and promote
interdisciplinary dialogue for a more sustainable and equitable
future in Latin America.
