Sofia Masdeu Rocha

Sofía Masdeu Rocha is a doctoral student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Yale University. Sofía earned her bachelor’s degree in “Letras” with a concentration in Latin American literature from Universidad de la República, Uruguay.

Her research focuses on the gothic and fantastic literary traditions in the Río de la Plata region from a discursive, cultural, and socio-political perspective, examining—among other aspects—the region’s problematic self-perception as nations of white European descent.

Sofía’s most recent scholarly articles have been published in the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies (Liverpool University Press) and the Journal of Lusophone Studies.

Sofía is a proud Club Nacional de Football supporter.
