Maria Antonia is a sophomore at Yale College studying History of Art and Psychology. She was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is interested in the relationship between economics, education, and public policy in Latin American countries. She has worked in the nonprofit sector to help combat illiteracy in Brazilian underserved communities through art, specifically by teaching creative writing classes focused on imaginative storytelling. At Yale, in addition to her coursework, Maria Antonia currently serves as the Co-President of the Brazil Club at Yale, where she has focused her efforts on providing support to Brazilian high school students applying to Yale College. She is a staff writer at The Yale Politic, where she writes mostly about social and political conditions in Brazil, and a staff reporter at the Yale Daily News, where she reports on museums and visual arts in Yale and in New Haven.
