Sophie Huttner

Sophie is a junior in Silliman studying Global Affairs with a focus on Latin America. She has worked with asylum seekers in legal settings and is particularly interested in studying the root causes of migration, as well as the role of the state in combatting gender-based violence. At Yale, Sophie is a leader of the Yale Interpretation Network, a student organization providing free interpretation services to non-profits in New Haven, with the goal of expanding language access city-wide. She also teaches English to new immigrants and serves as a Spanish tutor with the Yale Center for Language Study. She is currently working as an intern at Freedom House, where she contributes to the organization’s work on Venezuela. In her free time, she enjoys learning languages; she currently speaks Spanish and Portuguese, and is working on French.
